For over 20 years, the Children Rising family has celebrated and supported children, families, and communities struggling in the midst of a decades-long educational crisis. We know that a child’s learning flourishes when families, schools, and communities work together.
Through a circle-of-care approach, Children Rising programs surround and nurture children with personalized academic support so they can become confident, engaged students. We do that by connecting families, schools, and caring members of the community through wrap-around services that give the children enhanced in-home learning opportunities and weekly one-on-one reading, math, and homework tutoring.

Putting the Child in the Center
Children are at the center of the circle of care, surrounded by the academic and emotional support they need.
The circle of care begins at home with the family. Who better understands the needs of the child they have loved, nurtured, and poured care into? Parents and caregivers are a child’s first teachers. It’s critical to empower families to confidently advocate for their child’s education, support effective in-home learning, and receive additional resources to complete after-school homework assignments promptly.

Through your gifts, we are closing the circle of care, creating a more nurturing, supportive environment for child learning.
We closely collaborate with Oakland Unified School District educators and the schools we serve. Children Rising programs have collectively evolved to provide more wrap-around services for the children and families these educators believe can benefit the most with additional academic support. The critical needs of struggling students are then served by well-trained, caring volunteers who provide vital in-school and after-school tutoring.
The Children Rising circle of care comprises our three targeted programs—Succeeding by Reading, Path2Math, and FamilyBridge—to support elementary school children living in Oakland’s lowest-income neighborhoods and attending Oakland’s most under-resourced schools. Working in unison, the three programs give the children improved classroom engagement, self-confidence, and a fairer chance to achieve grade-level skills in reading and math as the year progresses.
Through this circle-of-care approach, we create a more nurturing, supportive environment for learning where every child and every family has a fairer chance to succeed in school … and in life.
