Unlocking Bright Futures: Celebrating National Tutor Appreciation Week

Discover the Transformative Impact of Tutoring on Oakland’s Children
National Tutor Appreciation Week is October 2-7, 2023. It was started over ten years ago by the National Tutoring Association to celebrate the incredible tutors across the country who work tirelessly to help millions of students from every walk of life and grade level.
We believe that every child deserves a fair chance to succeed in school … and in life. The caring, one-on-one tutoring you provide in reading and math—at no cost to the family—ensures that children in Oakland’s underprivileged neighborhoods receive that opportunity. You provide the most effective means to help a child overcome learning gaps and get back to grade level in reading and math.
Will you complete HER Circle of Care?

Here’s why you matter to the children you tutor:
- Individualized Instruction: Tutors offer personalized, one-on-one instruction that is tailored to the specific needs and learning styles of each student. This level of attention is often challenging for classroom teachers to provide to every struggling student.
- Boosting Confidence and Self-Esteem: The close relationship between a tutor and a student can be transformative. It not only helps the student academically but also emotionally. Feeling valued and supported by an adult can boost a child’s confidence and self-esteem, which is crucial for their overall development.
- Encouraging Engagement: When students have a caring tutor, they are more likely to feel comfortable asking questions and actively participate in the learning process. This engagement is essential for effective learning.
- Positive Attitude Towards Learning: Tutors can help students develop a more positive attitude toward learning by making the subjects more approachable and less intimidating. This shift in mindset can have a lasting impact on a student’s educational journey.
- Fostering Lifelong Learning: Tutors not only help students catch up with their peers but also teach them valuable study skills and learning strategies. These skills can empower students to become lifelong learners who are better equipped to face future academic challenges.
Tutors are unsung heroes in the education system, providing invaluable support and guidance to students who may be struggling. National Tutor Appreciation Week is an excellent opportunity to acknowledge and express gratitude for their dedication and the positive impact they have on the lives of countless children.
It’s not too late for YOU to be a tutor. Volunteer today, and you will give a child the one-on-one care they need to rise to their God-given potential.
