Children Rising is pleased to once again be the recipient of a generous grant from The Lowell Berry Foundation. The $40,000 grant marks the 18th year The Lowell Berry Foundation has supported Children Rising’s one-on-one reading, math, and homework tutoring programs.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of The Lowell Berry Foundation and the profound impact they are making in the lives of eager children in the East Bay.

Grant Supports Wrap-around “Circle of Care” Services

The primary purpose of The Lowell Berry Foundation is “To support organizations which are dedicated to strengthening the leadership of the local Christian church ministry. The Lafayette-based foundation is committed to serving the local community by providing a safety net for those in need while focusing on organizations that effectively shape lives and build leaders for tomorrow.”

Circle of Care
The Circle of Care

Your gifts support this circle of care—parents, teachers, and tutors—so that children are instilled with confidence and hope in their ability to learn.

Many children in schools serving marginalized neighborhoods in Oakland don’t have access to the resources they vitally need to succeed in school. Children Rising recruits, trains, and supports more than 200 volunteer tutors, many from our local churches and faith communities, to provide some of these critical services. Our one-on-one programs embrace children in a circle of care through personalized teaching during school, critical homework tutoring after school, learning tools at home, and family engagement and support.

“This wrap-around learning approach will prepare young elementary school students for more advanced learning in fourth grade, fifth grade, middle school, and beyond.”

By completing this circle of care—parents, teachers, and tutors—children are instilled with confidence and hope in their ability to learn. They are given a fairer chance to succeed in school and life.

Julian and Jennifer - Lowell Berry Grant

The Lowell Berry Foundation grant enables eager children develop math and reading skills in school and at home.

Through the grant, Children Rising will enhance programming to provide higher dosage levels of tutoring to each child in Succeeding by Reading and Path2Math. In addition, through the expansion of FamilyBridge, we will provide after-school homework tutoring and family empowerment support, enabling parents and guardians to provide more confident and enhanced academic support at home. This wrap-around learning approach will prepare young elementary school students for more advanced learning in fourth grade, fifth grade, middle school, and beyond.

By strengthening the team supporting these amazing kids, many more children will become active, confident learners, thrive in school, and have the chance to become leaders in their community.

Thanks to The Lowell Berry Foundation. Your faithful support for nearly two decades has empowered countless children and families in our community.

It’s not too late for YOU to be a tutor. Volunteer today, and you will give a child the one-on-one care they need to rise to their God-given potential.

I want to learn more about online reading or math clinics to see if in-school tutoring is right for me!

I want to help fund Children Rising tutoring and mentoring programs to empower more children this year!
